The cold weather evangelism strategies mentioned in my last post have been greatly needed here. Since last time, we have had two blizzards with temps falling below zero Fahrenheit. That's NOT my kind of weather!
My impression is that the cell phone strategy in particular works well, although it's difficult to tell because it generally doesn't lead to conversations with others. I suppose it's better than doing nothing and it's certainly preferable to handing out tracts in a mall or store and then being "removed" by security. Anyway, I'm ready for warm weather again so I can hit the streets!
Speaking of which... we are having a bit of warm weather! In fact, after using the cell phone preaching strategy at a mall last night, we stood on a busy corner in downtown Wichita with an "Are You Ready?" cross as cars passed by. If you're not familiar, this is a simple, hand-built, wooden cross that is about 3 to 4 feet tall. Just the right size for holding. The words "Are You Ready?" are painted on the horizontal piece. The cross serves as a great opener for people to ask "Ready for what?" People will sometimes stop their cars, roll down their window and ask. The answer is eternity. I've answered "to die" before, but some may see that as threatening. ;-)
No one was walking on the street last night due to the cold, but most people driving by looked and read the cross. It's my hope that they may be jolted to think about eternity. In warmer weather, the AYR cross should lead to one-2-one evangelism opportunities. By the way, the AYR cross is not my idea. Several street evangelists with blogs on the web use them, but I don't know who was first. I'm simply seeking the Lord's leading as to when and where to use it or whatever other strategy He has.
We're hoping the warm weather continues here so people will be out and receive seeds of the gospel. God bless you!
Amen, that IS the question we need to be continually asking "are you ready" - great entry Kevin. Behold, He is coming quickly. May we all be found about our Father's business when He comes!
